Job Description

The position manages WCM-Q's High-Performance Computing (HPC); storage systems (SAN, NAS), operating systems (Linux and Windows), cloud computing and security, and software and data platforms (virtualization, databases, scientific computing and applications) in support of projects and infrastructure related to WCM-Q’s research programs and activities. The incumbent will be required to provide dedicated support in consultation with researchers to help enable the next generation of scientific discovery and the implementation of new technologies in the HPC cluster environment.
Job Responsibilities
Provides and coordinates technical support in operation, installation, configuration and maintenance of enterprise and HPC and storage systems for Linux and Windows.
Possesses thorough understanding of cloud service platform (CSP) marketplace (AWS, Azure and GCP etc.) and cloud security. Builds a roadmap and deploys high-performance virtualization / cloud computing technologies for research systems and applications.
Develops, installs, administers, and troubleshoots services on servers to ensure reliable deployment and operation. This includes technologies such as: Apache, tomcat, KVM, SMB, file services, LDAP, AD, Nagios, PostgreSQL, Slurm, Docker and Kubernetes.
Assists, monitors and contributes in planning, evaluation, integration and installation of server hardware, software, virtualization and related technologies.
Develops systems and data management procedures and tools on servers using scripting languages and frameworks such as Bash, Perl, Python, puppet, etc.
Participates in weekly team meetings, discussions of technical and process issues for the team and other knowledge sharing forums such as WCM-Q issue tracking system, internal WCM-Q wiki and other network forums.
Manages projects including initiation, prioritization, job sharing, and documentation.
Proactively takes on responsibility for a proper resolution of assigned calls with full ownership of tasks, being sensitive to operational requirements such as ensuring minimal service interruption in line with applied Change Management process.
Monitors and coordinates outstanding issues/requests placed in the Issue Tracking System for timely resolution and customer satisfaction.
Keeps abreast of latest developments in research and high-performance computing technology; uses initiative and creativity to further enhance research informatics services. Recommends and introduces new technology/services applicable to infrastructure.
Performs other related tasks as assigned.
Education
Bachelor's Degree
Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline with 7-8 years of hands-on experience in advanced computing/technologies administering heterogeneous environment platforms including Linux and Windows with HPC component; storage systems, cluster computing, networking, etc.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Expertise in scripting (shell, Perl, python) and use of systems performance and diagnostic tools.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively.
Flexibility to function within multiple operational / platform requirements
Capable of implementing project management methodologies.
Familiarity with academic and research computing environments.
Strong attention to detail with analytical/troubleshooting skills.
Able to work in a team environment.
Fluent in spoken and written English.
Ability to work proactively and independently, as well as a team member.
